AUSTRALIA

August 20, 2009

One of my favorite Dj´s is Mike Simonetti. Head honcho of IDIB and my favorite no for his technical abilities, but rather his selector skills. I´m always looking forward to a new Mike Simonetti mix, and here it is. A mix recorded for Australian Triple-J Radio to promote his recent Australian tour.

Blurb:
“hello. here is a mix i did for Australian radio Triple J. It aired a few weeks ago and i am curious how it went over since it is not your typical techno/electro fare. Plus it was done in one take due to time constraints…This mix was made entirely of Disconet 12″s. Everytrack was either an exclusive Disconet edit or previously unreleased track altogether. there are a few tracks that were only released as a Disconet 12″. Most of these are of the Italo/boogie variety since I didntdo an Italo mix in a while and you know- boogie is very cool at the moment.”

MAX

August 20, 2009

Just discovered today that the track I´ve been digging by 6th Borough Project called “Do It To The Max” is actually a remix or dub edit of a 1982 funk song by Xavier. And I thought Craig Smith was an original bastard.

CIRCUS

New release from the always trustable DFA. Following up their modest club hit Still Going Theme, it´s Still Going once again, with the heavily Sylvester/ Patrick Cowly influenced “Spaghetti Circus”.

DAY

August 19, 2009

About 5 years ago I heard a mix by Belgian techno don Fabrice Lig, which featured a wonderful housey techno track with a single vocal sampel. That´s all I had to go on, I found out maybe a year ago that the sample was from the Motown classic “Come See About Me” by The Supremes. I scratched my brain and head and tried everything to find it, no luck. And a few weeks ago I decide to check out Detroit´s Omar S, and voila! There it is, the search is over.

A nice little mix from Portland´s E*Rock I found over at the wonderful blog Disco Workout. According to them, he´s quite the multi talent, in addition to being a great Dj he´s also an animator, visual artist, musician and record label owner. He´s probably a nice guy too.

ULYSSES

August 18, 2009

While we´re waiting for Chromeo to reclaim the modern funk throne with their upcoming DJ Kicks mix, there is a spot to fill. Enter Ulysses82. They hail from the land of milk and honey, aka the land of rain and pale people aka London, England and sound like what the before mentioned kings of funk would sound like if the guy who sings got sick or (God forbid) died.

This months podcast is a real treat, as promised Max Essa contributed with a funky house mix.

“…recorded live at an impromtu late night get together at a friends apartment in Tokyo….2 a.m, lots of Sake, Weed and err House Music!”

Indeed. So sit back, or get up and move those feet front, back and side to side.

Max Essa – Wildlife Mix (Stream only)

Be sure to keep an eye out for a Max Essa mix cd double pack dropping in September. First only in Japan, but follow closely for possible paypal purchase in the near future for all you living outside Japan.

CREDIT 2 THE EDIT

August 12, 2009

Edits, disco and otherwise, are the current cup ´o tea for many music lovers out there. They are awesome because they give you the chance to hear your favorite hits from the past played in a 4/4 beat, and it doesn´t get better than 4/4. The cheesier the edit is, the better.

Garth Brooks – Friends In Low Places (Cousin Cole Edit)

And the bigger the hit is, the better.

Pink Floyd – Another Brick In The Wall (Dj Agent 86 Edit)

The Who – Baba O´Reiley (717 Boys Edit)

FRENCH

August 12, 2009

The sensational disco pop label Italians Do It Better have a new release out. It ain´t Italian though, but it rather comes from a French person who thrives under the moniker of Premier Rang. It´s understated Balearic disco at its best, so Balearic in fact that another track, ZOE ET HEINE, is featured on the new addition in the Cosmic Balearic Beats series, out now on Eskimo Records. The track featured here was just released on 12″ from Italians Do It Better, and should be bought.
